Our History

GEW Penn State was first held on the University Park campus in 2009, the year after the international founding of GEW, and since then it has continued to grow exponentially. In 2009, GEW hosted five events, engaging 48 students. In 2015, GEW Penn State organized the largest celebration in the country, organizing 124 events at 10 different locations, drawing 5,058 students, faculty, staff, and community participants. In 2016, GEW Penn State streamlined event locations and implemented daily themes which allowed them to host 143 events at 15 different locations, drawing 4,509 students, faculty, staff, and community participants across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

In 2015, The Pennsylvania State Employee Credit Union (PSECU), a longtime community sponsor, endowed an internship specifically to assist the GEW Penn State team in their mission to extend their reach of engagement for entrepreneurial students and community members. In 2016, the PSECU intern helped to organize several major events during GEW.
